HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

I'm high on caffeine now HAHAHA I keep sending my friends (female, of course) kisses (the emoji kind) and making them feel awkward. IT IS SO FUN TO MAKE YOUR FRIEND FEEL AWKWARD.

....I think I'm a natural sadist. BEWARE PPL HAHAHAHA.

ANYWAY. HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR~~
It's the year of the snake~~ Snake snake snake~

Lol just thought of the Harry Potter song thing. The "snape, snape, severus snape". (Forgive me HP fans if I spelled the name wrong.)

And since I realise that most of my readers are non-chinese, allow me to enlighten you.

The Chinese Zodiac is made of the animals..

Rat
Cow/Bull
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon
Snake
Horse
Goat/Sheep
Monkey
Chicken
Dog
Pig

...in this order. So 2012 was the year of the Dragon and this year is the year of the SNAKE~ Imma piggy.

So... background story. 年 (nián,year) is a monster that terrorises villages and consumes humans. Every year, on the last day in the Lunar Calendar, the monster will make a visit to the villages.
Hence, things like firecrackers and the colour red were employed to scare the monster away. Thus, on the first day of every year, the villagers that survived will visit their relatives and friends to congratulate them on surviving another "year". That's why we say "恭喜恭喜" (gōng xǐ,congratulations) to each other and visit our relatives every Chinese New Year.

That's how my day was spent; visiting all my relatives. There's a lot more behind this Chinese tradition and you can look it up yourself if you're interested.
It's intriguing how traditions first came about, isn't it? Like who is the person who made up this story and then what popularised it?

And who's to say me or you can't start a tradition? This is so cool. Maybe we can start a "balloon day" internet tradition or something. XD

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR~

Snape, snape, severus snape (hermione!).
